./colitu-vpn-1.0.0-linux-x64/ColituVPNTUN mode and the kill switch need sudo and nftables; the .deb and .rpm packages install them as recommended dependencies.
Proxy and TUN mode
Proxy mode sets the system proxy on GNOME and KDE; TUN mode sends all traffic through the tunnel.
Kill switch
Built on nftables: if the VPN drops, traffic cannot leave outside the tunnel, and the rules are removed when the app exits.
Encrypted session
Session and connection settings are encrypted with AES-GCM using a key bound to the machine and the user.
Open source
The full code is on GitHub under GPL-3.0; packages are built by GitHub Actions.

Frequently asked questions
Why beta?
The Linux app is new. The core features work, but it has not been tested on every distribution and desktop environment. If something goes wrong, write to support or open an issue on GitHub.
Which desktop environments are supported?
On GNOME and KDE the system proxy is set automatically. On other desktops use TUN mode, which sends all traffic through the tunnel.
Why does TUN mode ask for a password?
Creating a network interface needs root. Colitu starts the core with sudo; the password is never written to disk and is forgotten when the app closes.
How do I install a new version?
During the beta, download new versions from this page or from GitHub. Installing the new package with the same command replaces the old version and keeps your account and settings.
