VPN for Claude: availability, rules and a stable connection
Where Anthropic's Claude is available, when a VPN helps and when it breaks the service's rules, and how to pick a server that works.
October 1, 2026 · 2 min readClaude is Anthropic's AI assistant. Like other AI services, it has a list of supported countries, and from other regions claude.ai and the mobile apps are unavailable.
When a VPN makes sense
- The network blocks the site. Corporate or campus Wi-Fi closes access to AI services even though you are in a supported country.
- An unstable connection. Your provider's route to Anthropic is congested and long answers break off.
- Public networks. In cafés and airports a VPN protects your requests from interception on the network.
Anthropic's rules
Anthropic allows Claude to be used only from supported countries and regions. If you are outside them, using it through a VPN may breach the terms of service and lead to the account being suspended. Check Anthropic's current list of supported regions and its terms before use: the decision and the responsibility are yours.
How to choose a server
Colitu regularly checks whether Claude opens from each server, from the server's own network. On the servers page those servers are marked Claude ✓. Pick one with that mark and the lowest latency.
Practical tips:
- Stay on the same server for a session: changing country mid-conversation may require signing in again.
- Stability matters for long answers and file uploads: if the connection keeps breaking, switch to a server closer to you.
- If the site remembers your old region, clear the cookies for claude.ai.
If it does not open
- Check on What is my IP that sites see the server's address.
- On Windows, turn on TUN mode: desktop apps may ignore the system proxy.
- Pick another server marked Claude ✓; the checks update automatically.
Payment
A Claude Pro subscription is paid under Anthropic's rules; a VPN does not change the country of your card, so not every card is accepted.
