How does it work?
- You turn on Ad blocking in the app's settings; Colitu reconnects for a moment.
- All DNS lookups of your device go through the VPN tunnel, encrypted with DNS-over-HTTPS, to Colitu's ad-blocking DNS servers.
- If the name belongs to an ad network or a tracker, the server answers 0.0.0.0. The app can never reach that server; the ad stays empty and the tracker cannot send data.
- Every other name resolves normally. Frequent names come from the cache, so pages often open faster.
What does it block?
- Ad networks that serve display and pop-up ads (Google ads, Yandex Advertising, AdFox, Taboola and similar)
- Analytics and tracking services (Google Analytics, Yandex Metrica, Hotjar, TikTok and Mail.ru counters and similar)
- The servers of ad and tracking libraries built into apps
- Lists: AdGuard DNS filter and AdAway, updated regularly
What can't it block?
- YouTube ads come from the same servers as the video and cannot be told apart at the DNS level.
- Ads inside feeds such as Instagram, VK or Twitch come from the same address as the content.
- If your browser's own “Secure DNS” setting is on, the browser bypasses the system DNS; turn it off or set it to automatic.
Privacy
- Query logs and statistics are switched off completely on our ad-blocking DNS servers: which sites you open is stored nowhere.
- Lookups travel from your device to the server inside the tunnel, encrypted with DNS-over-HTTPS.
- EDNS Client Subnet, which passes part of your network to other servers, is off. Names not on the lists are asked to Cloudflare and Quad9 over an encrypted connection; they see our server's address, not yours.
- The servers are in Sweden, the United Kingdom and Poland; if one does not answer, the app moves to the next.

The ad blocking test shows in a few seconds whether well-known ad and tracker domains are blocked on your device.
Frequently asked questions
A site broke. What should I do?
Rarely, a site or app depends on a blocked server. Turn ad blocking off in the settings; Colitu reconnects and everything resolves as before.
Will it slow down my internet?
No. Lookups already travel inside the tunnel; because frequent names come from the cache and ads are never downloaded, pages often open faster.
Can I use it with the ad-blocking extension in my browser?
Yes. They complement each other: the extension hides elements on the page, Colitu blocks ad servers across the whole device and every app.
Is it available on iPhone?
Ad blocking comes to the Windows and Android apps first.
